About OGSHIA
The Ogun State Health Insurance Agency was created on 27th of May, 2019 after the successful passage of the Health Insurance Bill by the Ogun State House of Assembly which the state Governor signed into Law No: 039/2018.
It is a success story that started as a unit under Ogun State Primary Health Care Board with the official flag-off of the State Community-Based Health Insurance Scheme by the State Governor in April 2014, and later transformed into Department of Health Insurance under the State Ministry of Health with the official scale up in July 2016.
The Agency presently has four departments as follows:
- Operations / Health Insurance
- Planning, Research and Statistics
- Administration and Supplies
- Finance and Account
Informal Sector
The informal sector in the state will be strategically targeted using various innovative means to ensure that every person in this sector is covered with health insurance. The Agency shall work closely with all stakeholders to develop programs and strategies towards this.
Formal Sector
The formal sector health insurance scheme is one of the schemes that OGSHIA is tasked with implementing. This sector is made up of the public sector (Civil and Public servants) and the Organised Private Sector.
Vulnerable Group
This group constitutes residents of Ogun State who cannot pay for themselves (indigents) and shall be covered by subsidies from Government, donations and grants from donor agencies and philanthropists.
